Solutions that secure change

The oilsands are a vital resource for Alberta and the rest of Canada. Currently, 240,000 jobs are directly or indirectly associated with oilsand projects, a number that is expected to steadily increase over the next ten years.

Linked to the development of the oilsands is the need for responsible action.  Close scrutiny against oilsand mining operations and their impact on the environment has emerged as a top concern for the public, industry and the government alike.  Practices that were once considered acceptable are no longer supported, leading both industry and government to research and develop new mining methods.

While complete solutions remain in development, advancements in extraction technology and reclamation techniques are showing positive signs of reducing the impact of oilsand operations on the surrounding landscape, water and air.
