Big Spirit is a Way of Life
Giving back to the community is a way of life for Wood Buffalo residents. In fact, nearly half the region's population actively volunteers. That's more than twice the national average! From picking up litter around your property to organizing large fundraising events, there are opportunities for every resident in Wood Buffalo to give back to the community they call home. Here are a few ways you can pitch in and help out!
Communities in Bloom
Wood Buffalo’s Communities in Bloom is a committee of local volunteers who are dedicated to the beautification of our region by making it a healthy, sustainable and desirable place to live. Every year the committee recognizes individual home owners, businesses and organizations for their efforts to beautify their properties. Information promoting environmental stewardship is also made available.
Litter can be a big problem in every community, so it's important for residents to do what they can to keep their environment clean. Every year thousands of volunteers across Wood Buffalo work together to remove litter around their homes, businesses and public spaces during the biannual spring and fall Community Cleanup. Equipped with bags and gloves, it only takes a few hours of time, but the payoff is immediate - a beautiful and healthy looking community we can all be proud of.
